Nicki Minaj Onika Tanya Maraj was born in Trinidad. When she was five years old, she moved to Queens, New York to live with their parents, but her father was allegedly abusive. Minaj LaGuardia High graduated in 2003 and began her singing career in 2004 as a backing singer and hooks for rappers in New York City.
